As a biological sciences major, opportunities to convey my thoughts through writing are few and far between. However, through Intermediate Composition, I was given the opportunity to explore various topics intertwined with rhetorical and genre analysis. Most of all, I was able to conduct this analysis based on topics related to my interests and future career. The successful completion of this course would not have been possible without the direction of Professor Gary Vaughn. Professor Vaughn was clearly passionate about his work and about seeing his students succeed. In reflecting on this course, what I will continue to cherish most is our one-on-one meetings to review and grade my work. I had never received this form of personalized learning and have a handful of takeaways that I will carry for the remainder of my academic career. The course was based around analyzing texts by various authors and using these texts as a basis of which to compose three literary works. The most challenging yet enjoyable essay I had the opportunity to write was the second essay or the genre analysis. I was able to incorporate a topic I am passionate about and explore this topic in a new light. Attached below is my work for this genre analysis. I analyzed genre within the topic of physician burnout; identifying genre within scholarly and popular articles.
